Gepps Cross Futsal Club put on a strong showing in an afternoon that saw both our Men's & Women's teams take on Adelaide Wolves on Sunday at Mars Sports Centre, Marden.
Both matches were designed under a custom format, which saw us play three periods of 17 minutes each.
Our Men's team showed great poise and discipline, as well as some clinical finishing which saw the six man rotation victorious 6 goals to 3.
Both teams approached the match as an opportunity to test several rotations and tactical variances.
Two goals to young gun Caleb Evans saw us take an early advantage in the first period. Logan McFall pulled one back for Wolves before Dejan Pršo added our third midway through the second period. Wolves clawed back again before Pršo added to his tally netting our fourth.
The final period saw Wolves apply heavy pressure and eventually they got the breakthrough they were after. With the game in the balance, our defence was exceptional and we were rewarded when Dejan Hercegovac scored with a tidy finish from a tight angle. Andrej Rastovac iced the game with our sixth in the dying seconds.
The following match featured our Women's team who showed great spirit to come from behind and record a win in their first match together.
The two time reigning champions Adelaide Wolves went ahead early but our Women grew into the game, remaining calm and collected. Our perseverance paid off with a four goal second period followed by a strong defensive effort in the final period that secured a well earned 5-3 victory.
